This Week At Bungie 7/27/2017

The aftermath of the Destiny 2 beta is over on consoles and according to their weekly blog the results were promising. This of course comes amid a host of positive comments as well as negative from gamers worldwide. They didn’t release any of the information stating “There will come a time for a public analysis of our findings.” So for the moment Bungie is not releasing what, if anything, they learned from the event.

An the heels of this more information is now known about the PC beta

Destiny 2 PC Beta
Early Access: August 28
Open Beta: August 29
Beta Ends: August 31
In addition to this preliminary specs were also released for the beta.
Recommended Spec
Intel – Core i5-2400
AMD – Ryzen R5 1600X
Nvidia – GeForce GTX 970
AMD – Radeon R9 390
Minimum Spec
Intel – Core i3-3250
AMD – FX-4350
Nvidia – GeForce GTX 660 2GB
AMD – Radeon HD 7850 2GB
They also gave some AMD/Radeon suggestions for gamers looking for an upgrade. In general the specs are, as they admit, not where the final product may land as they are simply for the beta. There are likely optimizations left to make to the PC engine and that will be on the back of running the game on active servers for consoles. Consoles, of course, running on two year old hardware that may result in limited PC performance. With the specs as given the PC version of Destiny is able to run with hardware that was released as early as 2013, earlier then either the PS4 and XB1.
This could mean a larger influx of PC gamers then originally thought as the PC platform is functioning from a 4 year install base of PC gamers versus a 2 year install base of consoles. Of course gamers, as you know, are typically an elitist bunch who are constantly striving to sit on the edge of the ‘latest and greatest’. The listed ‘recommended’ specs still put a new gaming rig well within the price margin of a PS4 or XB1 standard models. For those like me already rocking a Ryzen 7 1800X and Radeon RX 490 OC 8GB the dream of Destiny at native 4k is not that far fetched.
